INTERVIEW AT THE FREUD MUSEUM LONDON
ON SURVIVING CANCER WITH
RICHARD TYLER
On 20th September, 2024, Professor Brett Kahr, Consultant Psychotherapist at The Balint Consultancy and Honorary Director of Research at the Freud Museum London had the huge privilege of interviewing a most impressive man, Richard Tyler – a former West End star who subsequently retrained as a psychotherapist – about his new memoir As a Kite Falls: A Voyage Through Descent, in which Tyler has described his bold journey of navigating the diagnosis, treatment, and recovery from a rare form of severe, Stage 4 cancer.
Part of the Freud Museum London’s series, “Freud’s 4pm Session”, Kahr speaks with Tyler about the traumatisation of such a profound diagnosis and explores how Tyler managed to draw upon his psychological sturdiness to endure such an incomparable challenge.
Kahr hugely recommends Tyler’s extremely well-written memoir, for which he holds the honour of having written a foreword.
